Media in Chennai is a thriving industry, with some of the major national channels and newspapers based in the city. The city is home to 10 FM radio stations and two AM radio stations. Besides this, there are alternative forms of media as well such as documentary making and multimedia, a genre which is known as “new media”. Chennai is home to some of the leading schools and colleges of journalism, with the most popular ones being the Audio Visual Research Center at Anna University, Asian School of Journalism and Film and TV Institute of Tamil Nadu, among others.
